John Metcalf

As a youth in Florida during the late 70’s early 80’s, John Metcalf split much of his time between playing guitar and surfing.  As a member of the Nease High School jazz band, John began to hone his skills by performing live at an early age with 3 to 4 shows weekly. The professional performances were a natural progression as John became an adult. While still a familiar face at all the local hot surf spots,  John began to build his reputation performing live  with local cover bands like Blak Magic,  Secret Society, and Eric &  the Fury’s just to name a few.

Eventually John turned his attention to the creative side and formed Matrix, an all original trio which went on to put out two albums’ worth of solid original music backed up with many appearances on the local music scene and drawing interest from national record labels.  John then used this notoriety to join forces with the Heavy Sonic Muthers, a local Jax Beach hard rock band that signed with Jacksonville-based Rimshot Records and put out two CD’s and landed a spot opening up for nationally acclaimed act Drivin n Cryin, out of Atlanta.  One of the many projects John went on to pursue was called Cari Eden, which was featured on a Planet radio show promoting local original acts and the band was invited to perform at Planetfest.

Today John can be found tearing it up both in the surf and with his long time surf buddy Paul Lundgren at any one Jacksonville’s hottest live music clubs. John’s hard edge guitar playing is a perfect match for Paul’s vigorous vocals.  Between Paul’s energetic front man skills and larger than life vocals, John’s shredding lead guitar ability, good looks and great stage presence - combined with a solid rhythm section via ripping bassist Eddie Selph and drummer extraordinaire Bill Box to include Mad Dog & Englishman Saxophonist Ray Wood - you can expect a powerful rock-n-roll experience every time! With this line up the Paul Lundgren Band has made a big impact on Jacksonville’s live music scene.
